She and Aunt Sadie work at Guotin's bakery across the lane and enjoy a decent life living under the king’s protection just off of prosperous Gaslamp Avenue. Not all single women are as lucky in this steam and spring powered kingdom full of poor, prosperous, and sometimes unsavory men. Just when Sharrah is starting to feel normal again, and because she is now of an appropriate age, her aunt decides to take her to the dragon races. From there Sharrah's life is twisted into chaos after she is turned into little more than a prize for Luumin, a terrifying wizard with eyes the color of fall leaves. At Dragon’s Keep, while punishing Luumin, angry King Travvingto mistakes Sharrah for a racer in training and orders her to ride the dragon named Azure in an upcoming race. All she has to do is hold on and let dark Anshi win. But things are never so simple. Dragon Racer 2 While trekking through the dystopian Otherworld with a pair of hatchling red dragons and a few others, Sharrah Che befriends a past Sky Island winner. Good King Hotei helps her search for someone who can heal her fairy friends, but along the way she learns just how miserable the poor, seemingly mindless creatures have it there in the Dregs. She knows she must win a chalice and return and win again at Sky Island just to have a chance to change the dim reality they live in. Upon returning to her own world, Sharrah learns more about her strange heritage, which leaves her confused and with more questions than she started with. Still, she begins training for her chalice competition, while handsome Kin Kuul races on the outskirts of Maipam in a city called Pykyalla, in dangerous and exciting ‘Wild Wing’ races to earn his own way. Both have hopes of romance and a return to the Otherworld, to witness this year’s Sky Island race, if only to learn just what they are getting themselves into. With the help of her father, his Book of Spells, and a few unexpected allies, Sharrah will take on unexpected assassins, angry tyrants, and a host of others trying to stop her. This time though, she can’t just hang on for the ride. Sharrah has no choice but to win a coveted chalice, even if she has to hurt those she loves most to do it. With her father gone and only heartbroken, Meifeng to help her, she first has to race the mysterious course backwards, in hopes of learning about the parts of Xuanpu she's never seen before. All of this while King Grayscon strengthens his foothold in their world, and Kin Kuul drifts even farther away. How will she master the Book of Spells?
