Spectacular Performance of an Incredible Book

All of the voice actors were cast perfectly and there performances were wonderful! Right from the very start they pull you in!

The best version of the story.

I couldn't get into the print version, or any other audio version. I enjoyed the Gary Old man film and wanted more. This gave me that.

While some my find this book too "old fashioned to compete with the modern day Vampire stories and movies. This audio book was a eye opener for this listener. For the time period that it was written, Bram Stoker was a feminist! This book is a balance of male and female strength working together to defeat the Vampire. Having gone to a Catholic school, I did not have the opportunity to read this as a young person. I am glad I waited because I was happily surprised that this story did not run to the typical fair we see now. Thank you to all the narrators, great job!

This is Dracula very well done!

The book is amazing, of course! The cast does well bringing the characters to life.

One of the best performances ever.

I have searched Audible for the best version of Dracula. I have found two.
1. Dracula Naxos audio.
2. Dracula Classics collection.

The actors live their parts in this version of Dracula. My personal favorites were Jamie Parker who narrated the parts written by Jonathon Harker. Out of all the versions on this site, his is the best when conveying the horror of Jonathon's situation.
Another personal favorite was Allyson Pettitt's portrayal of Mina. She captured the image of a sweet, and wise woman willing to stand and fight for those she loves.
I highly recommend this performance to anyone interested in the Grandfather of modern vampire fiction.

Great reading

There are, apparently, three ways to do Dracula as an audiobook.

One is to have a single reader do the whole thing. There are many fine examples of this on Audible, but my personal favorite is the one by Simon Vance.

Another is to have one man read all the men's parts and one woman read both Lucy and Mina. A good example of this is the reading by Greg Wise and Saskia Reeves.

A third is to assign each character to a different reader, as here. When it works, it's great. The book is composed of letters and journals by a number of people, and by assigning each to a different reader you get a greater variety of interpretations. (The drawback is that sometimes when reading one of the journals, the voice of another character shows up in the dialogue: so does Reader A try to mimic Reader B? And you're likely to get as many different accents for Van Helsing as there are readers. But that's not much of an issue here.)

Audible, of course, has produced their own multivoice reading of Dracula. It's good, but it's marred by a highly praised but (to me) lackluster performance by Alan Cumming as Dr Seward. This reading, in my opinion, is better all around. I enjoyed it as my third trip through the novel.

True Classic Never Die

Having thoroughly enjoyed Nick Sandys' terrific narration on the Amazon Classics Edition of Dracula, I figured I'd check out other productions with a cast reading the different parts. The Naxos Audiobook production is top-notch from start to finish with perfect voice-acting from all the cast members. From Jamie Parker's horror and anguish-ridden turn as Jonathan Harker, Alison Petitt's turn as the wise, brave, and compassionate Mina Murray/Harker whom provides much the moral compass to our cast of heroes, Joseph Kloska's turn as the determined and brave Dr. Jon Seward, and lastly David Horovitch as the iconic Dutch vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing who turns in an eclectic range of charisma, compassion, charm, and kindness in his performance. Does a solid job with the Dutch accent too. Can't recommend this nearly enough, and goes to show when you have a top quality production you can really bring a story to life in a way that just merely reading it cannot not do.

It was ok

This book was my first exposure to Bram Stoker's Dracula. I've read and listened to modern vampire books but had never experienced this classic and decided to try this version. I liked that the different characters were voiced by different narrators although it did get confusing when they were reading the journals and speaking in another character's voice/part. Also, all the old-fashioned language was difficult to follow. I'm glad we've simplified our speaking and writing, so we don't use 20 words when five will suffice.

Interesting horror story but long

Great performances and awesome start but the story gets long and winded at times. Especially when Dracula or Van Helsing are not involved. Best scene is the ship and the captains journal.
