Resumen del Editor

Dracula is the seminal gothic horror novel of its time as Bram Stoker introduced the world to the legendary vampire Count Dracula.

Published in 1897 and told through a series of diary entries and letters, the story journeys into the dark world of Count Dracula through the eyes of several different narrators. The novel explores many themes, the role of women in Victorian culture, conventional and conservative sexuality, immigration, colonialism, post colonialism and folklore.

Irish author Abraham "Bram" Stoker (1847 - 1912) was writer of novels and short stories. He was also the personal assistant of the actor Henry Irving and the business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London, which Irving owned.

Good book, done well...

Dracula is by far one of my favorite vampire novels and I've listened to numerous audio book versions of the novel. This would be listed as one of the best audio book adaptations I've listened to so far. It is also the first audio book I have ever listened to where you can hear the narrator do more than just read the book. The occurrences are faint and don't distract from the reading, but are present periodically throughout the reading.

Were all women that useless during that time?

Maybe it's the time period difference but this book made me want to shout at the stupid "women" characters for all of the times they thought they were helping or that they were completely oblivious to everything the Count was doing. The voice acting was OK for the men's voices. I'm not sure about the women voices. The narrator did a fantastic job at making Lucy seem an oblivious, incompetent idiot. For a book that is known to be the release of Bram Stoker's impotent rage due to his wife's lack of love and interest in him, it is pretty tame. If you have nothing else on your list then sure why not read this. I suppose it's one everyone should at least read once... unfortunately.

The original.the best.

No vampiire novel compares to the original. it is facinating to know that this is the root that branched off into various permutations of vampire lore/stories, books, and film.

Brilliant!

I thoroughly enjoyed Dracula, the story goes beyond the terror of an immortal diabolical creature; it has so much to do with friendship and love and how to overcome all obstacles. The narrator was also very satisfactory.

Well Done

Where does Dracula rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Dracula has always been one of my favorite stories, Christopher Saul, and all those involved with the production who are not named Christopher Saul, served it well.

Excellent Book and Narrator

Of course, we all mostly know this story. But I've seen it done too many different ways in movies. It was so refreshing to hear all the original detail. Excellent listen. Excellent narrator. Worth the great price!

It's a man's world?

I have very much enjoyed listening to all three volumes of this narration. I have to point out several issues I have with the narrator. One jarring issue was listening to his voice as Van Helsing and making him sound just like Arnold Schwarzenegger rather than a Dutchman. He was also poorly convincing when he narrated the women's voices. Generally there was just not enough of a tonal difference between the characters to make it clear, while listening, who was the subject speaking.

Great story, excellent narrator

After all the vampire stories that have been so popular in the last few years, I was curious to see what the "original" was like. I liked it very much. I liked the reader, too. Van Helsing seemed to be a little long winded and overly mysterious in parts, but I found that I enjoyed the detailed characterizations quite a bit. I think I still love Sookie's pet vampires best, but I would really recommend this as an enjoyable fantasy read.
