Acerca de esta escucha
Daniel and his three friends were taken into captivity after Babylon had laid waste to the southern kingdom of Judah and its capital city of Jerusalem. This was a far greater devastating grief than even if invaders laid waste to our White House and Washington DC. The reason being, Jerusalem and Mount Zion on which it was situated, was not only a symbol of patriotism to God’s people, but it was also a symbol of God with His people. The fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple represented the defeat of a nation and the departure of God.
Why was the book of Daniel written? Daniel lived during a very discouraging time in the history of Israel. As we study through it, we will be able to relate a lot of what we are experiencing today with what Daniel and his friends encountered during their captivity. And because Daniel’s life encounters are so similar and relevant to us, the way he maneuvered through the swamp of his world, (and did so in a victorious God-glorifying way), provides us with a timeless training manual to live by.
Daniel’s life spanned the entire 70-year Babylonian captivity. During this time many of the Israelites felt betrayed by God and confused by His workings. The captives may have thought, “How could God allow this to happen? Was it His will for us to experience this pain? Or worse yet, was He not powerful enough to prevent it?!”
Can you relate to such thinking? I sure can. The promotion and permeation into society of immoral lifestyles has moved me to ponder “Why?” The recent questionable bizarre election of 2020 where the facts and figures just don’t add up, that has caused me to question, “Why?” A seeming two tier justice system where an elite class of the politically privileged seems to get away with any and every dishonest and even criminal act, and there seems to be no accountability for them, that has caused me to question “Why?” The draconian pandemic related restrictions, and globalist push to “Reset” how the world is governed to their advantage, that has caused me to look heavenward and ask, “Why?” All these things and more have given me pause and moved me to fervently ask God “Why?” in my prayers. If you’ve been pondering similar questions, I want to encourage you to consider this study of Daniel. There are principles laid out in this study that will help answer those questions.
