At Lake Woof, everyone has a story. Fourteen-year-old Becky lives with her emotionally abusive father, Bruce. Her mother abandoned her when she was little. Ann is still in shock over the sudden death of her college-aged son Liam. She has lost her will to live, but is tasked with caring for Liam’s Dachshund, Choco. Becky and Ann meet at the dog park, where an eclectic cast of characters sit in a gazebo and swap tales as their dogs frolic and play. Friendships develop through the healing power of storytelling, and Becky and Ann form a deep bond over their losses.

The dog lovers at Lake Woof are concerned as Becky’s father becomes increasingly unhinged. When she discovers the despicable thing Bruce did that caused her mother to leave, will Becky find the power to stand up to him with the support of her new community? Will Ann's bond with Becky give her the strength to start living again?

You know it's always a gamble when you see the author is reading their own book and not an experienced actor. They either hit it out of the park or it's a flop.
Thank goodness for the listener it's the first.
The story is well woven and while the dogs are important characters, the author did a great job of developing the humans! :) This book has it all. Well done.

Enjoyed it! Couldn't stop listening!

Dog Park by Michelle O’Neil is a beautifully written and lovingly recorded character-driven novel that quietly dazzles. The cast is rich and varied, with each character thoughtfully developed, whether warm and kind or shaped by darker pasts. The overarching story line follows artistic and thoughtful Becky and her increasingly unhinged father Bruce. O’Neil masterfully reveals backstories with emotional precision, creating a deeply human, unforgettable listen. The production quality was wonderful and the narration was fantastic. Please give this a listen, you will not regret it!
