Resumen del Editor

History must take its course... The TARDIS materialises in the middle of a holy war between King Richard the Lionheart and the Saracen leader, Saladin, in 12th Century Palestine. As the Doctor, Vicki, Ian and Barbara explore their surroundings, they are suddenly caught up in a Saracen ambush - and Barbara is kidnapped. For the time travellers, intrigue and espionage ensue as they once again become involved in living history. A newly-knighted 'Sir Ian of Jaffa' makes haste to find and rescue Barbara, whilst the Doctor finds it difficult to stay out of trouble in the court of the King... This classic adventure, only two episodes of which survive in the BBC film archive, stars William Hartnell as the Doctor, William Russell as Ian, Jacqueline Hill as Barbara, and Maureen O'Brien as Vicki. Amongst the guest cast are Julian Glover as Richard, with Jean Marsh as his sister Joanna.

Soundtrack from TV Show with Narration

This is a 1965 episode of Doctor Who that is not currently available on DVD since the videotape for two parts is missing. This is basically the soundtrack with narration added. It is very easy to follow the story, and all of the dialogue is from the actual actors.

The Doctor meets The Lionhearted

Where does Doctor Who: The Crusade rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Due to the story being the recording, with linking narration added, of the lost TV episode, it flows much better then a simple audiobook with a single narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Doctor Who: The Crusade?

There were a lot of memorable moments, though I guess the climax of the story with the Doctor and gang making their way to the TARDIS to escape was a big one.

What does William Hartnell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

With William Hartnell, and the rest of the cast you really get a sense of the story they were telling, where just reading the novelization robs you of hearing the characters voices.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No real extreme reactions, you have the usual up and downs like when Barbara escapes or when Ian ran into the bandits on his way to rescue Barbara.

Any additional comments?

Fans of Doctor Who's classic stories would really enjoy hearing this classic lost story, as well as hearing all the original voices, many who have since passed on.
