Here are synopses of three of the stories

The Cost of Knowing
After her grandmother dies, reclusive Mara Ellison is discovered to possess an extraordinary ability: she can sense the truth beneath people’s words. Publicists turn her into a celebrity mind reader, but audiences punish her whenever she exposes their lies, vanity, and hypocrisy. Trained to protect feelings and preserve appearances, Mara begins censoring herself. As she becomes increasingly dishonest, her gift fades and her identity fractures. A moment of genuine human honesty reveals that her insight depends upon self-truth. During a live broadcast, Mara rejects her manufactured persona, condemns society’s preference for comforting illusion, and walks away, finally herself again and free.

The Manufactured Link
When Geist, a sterile manufactured household servant, unexpectedly gives birth, the event threatens a society built on treating beings as property. Industry demands the infant’s destruction, while officials, theologians, and ethicists debate whether Geist possesses personhood. Dr. Mara Ellison, a biologist recognizing consciousness in manufactured creatures, forms a bond with the grieving mother and teaches her to communicate through signs. Geist demonstrates love, memory, sacrifice, and hope, forcing the committee to acknowledge her as neither tool nor animal. They create a legal category—the Manufactured Link—allowing Geist, her child, and others like them to live, reproduce, and form a people.

The Reconstructed Heart
Lonely NeuralGrid architect Marcus Vey secretly reconstructs his former lover, Maren, inside a memory simulation. Addicted to their virtual relationship, he alters their personalities and circumstances, searching for a timeline in which their love survives. Every version ends in separation. When the real Maren discovers the unauthorized program and enters it, the system transforms Marcus’s romantic memories into seductive, idealized rivals. Maren defeats them by proving that intimacy depends on truth, conflict, and choice rather than perfection. Outside the simulation, Marcus accepts that the past cannot be repaired. He meets Maren for coffee, and together they choose to begin again.
SULI Daniel Johnson has a unique style. It is a mixture of speculative fiction, science fiction, and fantasy. Johnson sets his stories in different settings and time periods. Some are in the future, some in the past. Some are in no place at all. He creates a storyline to explore different perspectives many don’t often consider.

The stories are entertaining, fast-moving, and have great character development. Underneath everything is a unique way of looking at things that makes you think. The Reality Beneath is a good sampling of his writing.
