Discipleship Defined

Discipleship in the New Testament is not just about following someone; it involves a transformation of one's life, seeking to become like Jesus through obedience to his teachings. It is a way of life.

I want to take the word D.I.S.C.I.P.L.E. and use it as an acronym to describe what discipleship means and what a disciple is.

A D.I.S.C.I.P.L.E. is:

D - Disciplined in His/Her Relationship With God - Phil. 1:27-28

I - Involved in a Gathering of Believers - Heb. 10:25

S - Spirit-filled & Spirit-Led - Rom. 8:14; Eph. 5:18

C - Concerned for Others Rather than Self - Phil. 2:3-4

I - Involved in Serving in His/Her Area of Giftedness - 1 Peter 4:11

P - Prayerful in All Things - Phil. 4:6-7; 1 Thess. 5:17

L - Leading Others to Become Disciples - 2 Tim. 2:2

E - Enjoying God Always - Isa. 61:10; 1 Thess. 5:16
