I understand Urdu about 70%, but not knowing the literal meaning of some words didn't interrupt the flow or joy of listening to this classic. It took me straight to the glorious times of the grand city called Dilli with such granule description of life and people from all levels of the society, including the Mughal Emperors, Begums and endless characters surrounding them.
The historical facts were quite interesting...made me think about the unbelievable changes in culture and human values from bygone era. I kept thinking of "yu hota to kya hota" type of scenarios.
Next time when I get to visit the city, I am sure I will see it in a new light and definitely look for many places and facts described in this wonderful book.
The narration was top notch as well. Made me lol and also moistened my eyes at times. One phrase out of the hundreds of unforgettable ones that keeps repeating in my mind - "Ek tave ki roti..."
Thank you Intizar Bhai and Arif Bhai!
