Warum für sie ziviler Ungehorsam und Widerstand der einzige Weg ist, um auszudrücken: Es ist noch nicht zu spät, wenn wir jetzt die radikale Wende schaffen.
Massive Hitze, Dürren, Waldbrände, Überschwemmungen – alles verheerende und spürbare Folgen des Klima-Wandels; vielmehr: des Klima-Notfalls. Wir erkennen, dass wir nicht einfach so weitermachen können, wie bisher. Aber wir sind mit all den Krisen, in denen wir stecken, überfordert; würden die drohende Klima-Katastrophe am liebsten verdrängen. Wir hängen an dem, was lange Zeit unser Leben bestimmt hat, an der unbegrenzten Möglichkeit, jederzeit aus dem Vollen zu schöpfen. Und es nervt, wenn Umwelt-Aktivist*innen behaupten, wir wären "die letzte Generation", die die Klima-Katastrophe abwenden kann – und mit ihren Aktionen unseren Alltag stören. Was treibt diese Menschen an, sich derart radikal politisch zu engagieren?
Lina Eichlers und Henning Jeschkes Engagement für die Letzte Generation begann mit einem Hungerstreik, den sie gemeinsam mit fünf anderen jungen Aktivist*innen während der Bundestagswahl im Spätsommer 2021 in Berlin antraten. Das gemeinsame Ziel: ein Gespräch mit den damaligen Kanzler-Kandidat*innen über den "Verrat an der jungen Generation". Nach über 27 Tagen Hungerstreik sicherte Olaf Scholz dem inzwischen in Lebensgefahr schwebenden Henning Jeschke und seiner Mitstreikenden ein Gespräch zu.
Dr. Jörg Alt wurde durch den medial eng begleiteten Hungerstreik auf die Klima-Widerständler*innen Lina Eichler, Henning Jeschke und deren Anliegen aufmerksam. Der Jesuitenpater war es, der hartnäckig immer wieder Kontakt zu den Kanzlerkandidat*innen der verschiedenen Parteien aufnahm und appellierte, den Hungerstreikenden endlich ein Gespräch zuzusagen. Der 61-jährige Jörg Alt ist längst selbst zum Klima-Aktivisten geworden, auch wenn er zunächst einige "Stör-Aktionen" der Letzten Generation nicht guthieß.
Was die drei eint, sind der Glaube an wissenschaftlich gesicherte Fakten, die sich längst in der Realität zeigen, und ihre Überzeugungen, für die sie eintreten.
Zum besseren Verständnis enthält das Buch aktuelle Erkenntnisse zum Stand der Dinge in Sachen drohender Klima-Katastrophe. Und es bietet Lösungsansätze, was jede und jeder von uns tun kann, um einen Teil dazu beizutragen, dass auch nachfolgende Generationen auf diesem Planeten noch eine Lebensgrundlage haben: Politiker*innen immer wieder zu sagen, dass sie ihrer Klima-Schutz-Verantwortung zu unser aller Wohl endlich nachkommen müssen, den eigenen Konsum und die Fortbewegung auf den Prüfstand zu stellen und vieles mehr.
