Acerca de esta escucha

Devin Sharp, a gentle-natured boy, has trouble sleeping. Recurring visions of strangers moving among shadows in his bedroom keep waking him at night. He swears that what he sees and hears is real. To no avail. No one believes him.

An older sibling taunts him. "Silly dreams," she says. But are they?

Coming of age as a gay teen in the seventies, Devin's sleep issues are just one more secret safely locked up in his closet. But not for long. Freshman year in college brings a measure of freedom and a chance to explore well beyond the boundaries of stifling social molds.

Experimenting with a powerful drug, Devin's quirky visions resurface. This time, however, something is different. A rabbit hole materializes out of nowhere. Thrust into it by a mysterious force, Devin is hurled into another world centuries before his own. There, awaiting, a host of strangers appear to know him...

Unexpected Read

Devin's Dreams was an unexpectedly good read. I thought the story was very unique and interesting throughout. John York did an amazing job acting out each of the many characters. He embodied each of the characters perfectly.

A remarkable piece of literature.

I'm not one who reads novels and in fact, I can't even remember the last time I did. However, my wife told me about Devin's Dreams by DC Wilkinson and said I could try listening to it through Amazon's audio books. What a remarkable piece of literature that took me on an unforgettable journey. The narrative is rich with intricate details and well-developed characters, making it easy to get lost in the story. Wilkinson's writing style is both engaging and thought-provoking, it drew me into the world he created. The audio version of Devin's Dreams made the story come alive with a long list of characters, each with a distinctive voice and personality.

If you're into historical fiction, I highly recommend Devin's Dreams.

I am in LOVE with Devin Sharp!

Wow! This novel got deeper and deeper the further I listened to it. What a joyride it was traveling through all the twists and turns. I am very impressed with D.C. Wilkinson's clever and intelligent imagination. Also, John York's narration is brilliant. His voice is so pleasant and his interpretation of all the characters is masterful. My only complaint would be that the story concentrated a bit more heavily on Giovanni than it did on Devin. I do hope D.C. Wilkinson finds a way to write a sequel to this because I am in LOVE with Devin Sharp! And make sure John York narrates the sequel too!

A Fanciful Exploration of and Through Time

This book was a fascinating expedition into the nature of time, memory and eternalism. To me it had the feel of being highly influenced by Aldous Huxley and late 1960s philosophy. It is also a coming of age story for the main character Devin as he navigates his “dreams” (more accurately described as visions) and comes to terms with his homosexuality in the often hostile society of the 1970s and 1980s. It was beautifully written and evoked powerful imagery creating a vivid mental picture. The themes were fascinating and I'm sure I will ruminate over them for quite a while to come. The audiobook was voiced by John York who I felt did a great job. Never once did I not know which character was speaking, a problem I often have when there is one narrator voicing an entire cast, so that was quite impressive. I recommend this book for anyone interested in the philosophical nature of existence and perception or if you are just after an interesting story with time travel elements that spans through different centuries. I believe it can be enjoyed either way or both.

Wonderfully immersive !!

I forgot I was listening to an audiobook and not actually eavesdropping on a fantastical world! John York's exceptional narration added a whole new layer of depth to the story, making it feel like I was right there with the characters. His ability to switch between different voices and accents seamlessly and effortlessly transported me into the story.

Time travel

I wasn't satisfied with ending.
Iwanted a happily ever after. Felt like Shania/Devin should have ended together in some kind of time.
Luke chrachtet came out of nowhere.
But narrator was excellent.
I am happy to have gotten to experience this listen.
I prefer it to reading.

Vividly Intense

Devin Sharp, as a child experiences vivid visions of which he is all too often pooh-poohed. Now, as an adult, his dreams return with vivid intensity and vengeance!

The author, D. C. Wilkinson, crafts a story that follows a man’s journey from childhood to old age. Wilkinson’s narrative includes sudden independence and the chance to explore new experiences and self-discovery. He presents situations that highlight confusion, emotions, and challenges people face when dealing with their own mental health and that of others. His characters are well-developed fitting smoothly into the narrative. His writing style is pleasant and flawless.

The narrator, John York, does a magnificent job of giving voice to each character. He adeptly switches his voice to reflect the different time versions of each character. York‘s performance has an authentic and natural flow as he clearly projects the essence of each character and situation. His delivery and cadence are deliberate thus providing the listener with an immersive and unusual adventure.

This LGBTQ-focused historical mystery is well-done and captivating immersing the listener completely.
