Destroyer's Blood - audiobook one of the Blood series: a fantasy novel by award-winning author Michael Lynes.

Dev shook his head, spitting out dust and rock chips. The last rays of the setting sun stained the ground crimson. "Betrayer," he murmured, ears still ringing from the terrific explosion, "we have a problem."

The cryptic message from Olympus changes everything.... One moment, Devcalion and Betrayer are free, climbing up Half Dome without a care in the world, the next, they are dragged into battle with the Destroyer, Zeus' ancient foe.

The dark power is merciless, and time is running out. It's up to Dev and Tray to try to stop him, or the world of men and gods is doomed.

I love Greek mythology and this one had it all. The main character was humble and this book mixed in some modern urban fantasy. His sword could talk, feel and act. I really enjoyed this as it reminded me of many Mangas I have read over the years. The story did have some slow parts but it didn't take too much away from the main story for me. I didn't mind it.

The narrator grew on me more in this book. I got used to the echo voices and it was much easier to tell people apart. Definitely worth a listen. I am looking forward to the next in the series.

This book is a greek mythology-based modern urban fantasy/adventure story. A good sense of humor and great narration make for a really entertaining listen. If you like urban fantasy I would highly recommend this audio book. I hope there is more from this author/narrator duo.

Loved it!

Loved the novella, so I could not wait to listen to this one. One of the things I loved about this book is how the author puts his own take on a mythology that we have read about.
I gave it four stars because I did find it slow at times but other than this it is a good read/listen.

Great.

I love stories of mythology, the odyssey, clash of the titans etc. This story fall right in line, just set in our timeline. The adventure filled with misadventure, is done wonderfully in tune with the old stories. I really enjoyed the narration of it. Reminded me of an old tv show or radio drama. I look forward to listening to the next book to see what new misadventures awaits our heroes!

I listened to a short story with these characters from this author and narrator earlier this year. This is a great continuation. The take on Greek mythology is very interesting. The story is non stop action and very entertaining. I highly recommend this author and this narrator.

David Bosco is an excellent narrator and brings life to every character.

The Titans and the gods of Olympus are not dead and gone, they just operate in the background these days. But the balance of power has shifted and the future of mankind is on the line. David Bosco clearly had a wonderful time voicing the characters for the audio as they swashbuckle through history and move through dimensions. I regret I am not sufficiently conversant in Greek mythology to know how much is a dramatic retelling and how much is pure imagination based on the ancient tales, but I fully enjoyed the story!

In a world of mythological gods and demi-gods, their very human aspects keep surfacing in the well-defined characters. In this fantastical world where swords can talk and love, we become reacquainted with familiar mythological figures and learn to trust no one. Not Zeus who can be manipulated to extreme evil by demonic forces, not Geo whose revengeful actions brings the destruction of earth and human race to the very brink of no-return, certainly not Typhon with his deep-rooted ambition of usurping Zeus' throne. From scene to scene, we are transported from the ancient Greek world of mythology to a very modern New York City with its penthouses and the best money can buy, to the fantastical fairytale world of furry talking bunnies a la "Alice in Wonderland" flair reminiscent of the "Once Upon A Time" series in which modern characters are thrown in fairytale illusions. It is a complex story with many characters that are splendidly interpreted by the narrator David Bosco. I'm always amazed by his control of the various characters and his ability to give each one his or her own personality. His creativity is truly amazing. I also enjoyed the special effects used throughout the narration. They give you an almost "visual" experience.
This first book in the Blood series is truly remarkable and a must read. You will not be disappointed

The Adventures of Very Human Gods

I highly recommend Michael Lynes The Blood Series, starting with It’s In the Blood and following with Destroyer’s Blood. If you are into Mythology/Gods, this is the series for you. Sometimes when you’ve read/listen to books in the same genre it’s difficult to find something new/keep interest, but this is not the case with The Blood Series.

Both books kept me engaged from start to finish. They are fast-paced, with great characters, awesome narration, and fun banter between Devcalion “Dev” (the MC) and Betrayer “Tray” (his sword). I devoured It’s In the Blood in one listen and would have done the same with Destroyer’s Blood had it not been for life responsibilities calling…

Some things to expect: Gods such as Zeus, Typhon, Adrestia, Prometheus, Gaia (and more), loyalty, fighting, sarcastic humor between Dev and Tray, great world building/characters/dialogue, samurai influences. There is an echo type sound effect added when certain Gods are talking, so if this isn’t your thing, consider listening to a sample before purchasing.

The narrator, David Bosco, was fantastic! He definitely helped make these books fun and added to the story. He’s one to watch out for to do great things with narration.

I am looking forward to more books in this series. The author and narrator make a perfect team.

Overall, I recommend and will not say much more due to spoilers. Your safe bet is to try the short story, It’s In the Blood, and if you enjoy that, you will enjoy Destroyer’s Blood.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: whore used once (in first book), hell (Hell’s Kitchen referenced a couple times), breast is mentioned numerous times (grief rose in my breast/I could feel the softness of her breast/his chin slumped onto his breast/mostly non-sexual usage of word), death, fighting, weapons such as swords/knives, engagement to another God that was forced and didn’t work out, a mention of an unclothed woman (not in detail), mention of a kiss (not in detail- “our lips met”). Considering the content, they are fairly clean books.
