Demetrius Cartwright is in his second year at Demigod High in Greece, and he feels like a complete and total outcast. Heck, he even feels like a total outcast around the half-blood friends that he has in school. Frankly, Demetrius has always felt like an outcast his entire life, even an outcast to his single mother Amanda Cartwright who raised him. Being a half-blood son of Hades isn't anything for him to boast nor brag about either.
The half-blood children of Hades are prone to bad luck, and have an unintentional reputation of spreading bad luck around them with each step they take. Therefore, Demetrius always assumes the worst possible things to happen around him no matter how hard he tries to avoid any sort of trouble, unfortunately, trouble just seems to find him. During Demetrius's second year at Demigod High, he gets into huge trouble, of course, as well.
Demetrius winds up stealing his father's most precious and valuable possession: Hades's Book of the Dead. After stealing his father's most previous possession, Demetrius faces a new problem: he has no clue what to do with it! Well, he doesn't know what to do with it, that is, until after his mother passes away. Yes, Demetrius winds up using his father's most valuable possession to physically communicate with his deceased mother. Talk about a crazy and adventurous tale!
