Resumen del Editor

Nothing ever happens in Texarkana.

At least, that’s what army veteran Isis Black thinks about her small Texas town. After her tour of duty with the 82nd Airborne, her homecoming has been marked by loneliness, isolation, and complete boredom. Her only friend in town is Bob, a homeless veteran who’s more than a little paranoid.

Then, something astounding happens, and Texarkana gets a whole lot more interesting.

Death herself has come to town, and she’s searching for an intern! Isis accidentally killed the previous intern several months earlier, and now she’s been marked to take over the job. Assigned to aid her in her new positions are Constantine, an ancient cat, and Bartholomew, a 10-year-old genius.

Isis gives the entire offer a resounding no, but Death has already given her the power to see the truth about her surroundings - and what Isis discovers is disturbing. Someone is hunting down the homeless in Texarkana and stealing their souls. When poor, paranoid Bob becomes the latest victim, Isis is enraged. There are sinister happenings afoot in town, and Isis will take the fight to the devil himself in order to protect those she cares about.

death intern

I like the story it was fine . the story itself was enjoyable however the performance was appalling the person who was doing the narrating was not in the least proficient. the amount of background noise was distracting and irritating. I really couldn't rate the story highly simply because of the performance.

poor narration

The narration was not good. You could hear her lick her lips. there were long dead air breaks. and many instances where lines had to be reread.

Suspenseful With Lots of Humor

Death's Intern is the first in this series. It is quite suspenseful with a lot of humorous moments. The book introduces the main character, Isis, to the supernatural world in a way that makes you laugh and cringe. The story has me looking at Texarkana in a new light. DC Gomez creates a world in this book that feels real. That is one element that engages you.

Isis has a unique perspective on life. However, with Death as your boss and a 5000 year old Cat named Constantine your Guardian, it is expected that the character might be a tad unusual. I love her sarcasm, as well as her compassion for others. Her lack of perfection is endearing and makes her relatable. Eric, the hot cop, Sam the homeless guy, and boy genius Bartholomew all have a similar compassion for others, as well as special gifts and talents that make them uniquely qualified to help Isis in her mission to save humanity while taking care of the dead.

The voice actor was initially not what I expected. She sounds young and I am accustomed to older, sounding narrators/readers. However, since the book is told from the perspective of Isis, her voice works. it is kind of how I imagine Isis might speak. She captures the character's sarcasm well and describes the magical and supernatural elements as Isis might.

I love the Death's Intern series and throughly enjoyed this audio book! I may go back and get the other books in the series via audible.

A fun story

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pick this book up, but I’m glad I did. The story itself was good, I enjoyed going along with the main character.

The narrator was ok, she stumbled a few times in the book but overall she did ok. The editing of the recording wasn’t great, the microphone picked up some background noise (a page flip here and there, and I sometimes heard talking). The start and stop cuts in spots are real abrupt. I can’t imagine what goes into recording and editing so I don’t want to be over critical.

I listen at work so the books don’t usually have my undivided attention, the listen threw me off once in a while but kept me entertained.

If the narration is going to be an issue for people maybe grab a kindle version or something.
