Resumen del Editor

A friend lost. A horror unearthed. An enemy reborn.

It was meant to be a simple few days away: Verity heading off for a much-needed girls’ weekend in New York City.

But then comes her desperate call to Alastair Stone: A terrifying disaster has occurred, killing dozens of people - including a dear friend.

When Stone joins her to investigate, they quickly discover that magic is behind the catastrophe. Even worse, it’s magic that isn’t even supposed to exist.

As a long-simmering disagreement explodes into a rift between Stone and a grief-stricken Verity, Stone learns that things are even worse than he feared.

Someone has unearthed a long-dead mage's legacy, threatening to unleash nightmarish ancient magic that no one - living or dead - is safe from.

Girl please

Warning: there are two novellas unavailable on audible which you are expected to have read before the events of this book. You can piece together some of what happened, but a lot of context is left out.

Love this series, but I find Verity extremely frustrating. I feel like she is goin g the same way as Iton Druid’s Granuelle. No thanks. Stone just needs to break up with her and let her get t

Verity got on my nerves!

This book was enjoyable, but Verity was going the same thing the Harpies wanted to do to the little girl who hurt one of their order. However, Verity was acting like a complete butthole the entire story. she was really irritating! I mean really irritating!!

least favorite so far. but you may like

Varity was so pushy and annoying to me all book. Alister lets her walk all over him now.

(Slight spoilers)

how did Merriam find the portal guy in 1st place? why would he just walk away from Merriam after KO her and why would Aliister just 4get about her and walk away? and a convenient end to portal guy issue huh? just not great story telling to me just to set up next part

Meandering

A disparate collection of thoughts trying unsuccessfully to form a cohesive plot. it would have been better served if it had been two separate books more fleshed-out and complete. Verity is still a child, but her portrayal in this book with her extremely short fuse and no compassion and constantly throwing unfounded accusations at Stone seemed way out of place for her character. the story itself was destroying it. There was one scene where parody used her magic to throw a zombie across the room using his clothes since magic wouldn't work on the body. she immediately forgot she could do that and never use that technique again. nor did Stone. I'm really hoping the next book in the series does better than this one. my first disappointment for the Alastair Stone Chronicles. A note to R,L. King. I'm not sure if you know the definition of 'demanded'. You use it constantly, several times per chapter at time. "'Pass the salt,' Jason demanded." is not a correct usage of the word, Please stop using it every time two people have an interaction, Words like 'asked', 'inquired', 'pressed', 'exclaimed', 'chided', 'said' are all valid alternatives, Please invest in a thesaurus.
