Surprisingly addicting

I was thinking that this is going to be something cheesy teenage drama but it’s more than that. I love how it still feels like the series book but different. It’s not dragging. I love how the story is developing. Keep it up Ms Mia! We’ll be waiting for the next book.

Great mystery

I really enjoyed this new (hopefully) series! I really enjoyed the Mia P. Manansala's other series Tita Rosie's kitchen. I like the main characters and their diversity. She deals with heavy issues in a respectful way. I'm looking forward to the next book!

Good story, engaging characters

this was a story that I really enjoyed. I like the characters and I like the situation and I like the surprise ending of sorts. I definitely like this author and how she brings in her Filipino sensibilities as well as an awareness of diversity in terms of race. class, and lifestyle choices into her work.

Excellent!

I love Mia P Manasala’s writing in the Tita Rosie’s Kitchen Mystery Series. Now with the last book in the series coming out in November, I decided to give Manasalsa’s YA debut a listen. The book is excellent. All of the themes from the Tita Rosie series I love are there- food, romantic intrigue, a very good mystery, and a diverse group of characters, but this time it was framed in a coming of age story. Even more, I truly appreciated how Malansala talked about class differences in a way that didn’t fetishize having limited resources. I am very much middle age, but I know my teenage self would have loved hearing about the lives of working class teens who navigate going to schools full of wealthy kids without shame. I really hope this is a series! I can’t wait to hear how Danica manages dating, her growing tarot business, and friendship. 10/10!

intermission

I started in on these books a year ago and have steeped in the Arsenic and Adobo. This context of their lives as teenager Chicagonauts' is such a necessary breathe as we continue to dig in, dish after devious dish.
