Acerca de esta escucha
With an evenly-divided United States Senate, the stakes are high for the nation's political power brokers. The leader of one party decides to change the numbers by arranging the elimination of one of the other party's senators. As the senator's death sends shock waves through the nation's capital, federal prosecutor Jeff Trask and a team of FBI agents and police officers must solve not only the senator's homicide, but the murder of one witness and the attempted murder of another.
Further complicating their efforts is the fact that the trial of the killer must take place in the political swamp of Washington, D.C. As Trask and his team investigate the deaths and prepare for the trial of the century, the nation's political fate hangs in the balance.

Good story - bad narrator
I really enjoy the Jeff Trask series, and the previous books in the series had a good narrator. Unfortunately, the narrator for this book isn't very good. He's slow and pedantic. I think he'd do much better at narrating histories. For me, it's irritating enough that I'm not going to finish the book on Audible, but will go to Kindle for the rest of the story.

Story ok, new narrator :((
So disappointed that the narrator was changed. The story was fine, but I just was not as invested in the characters as with the previous novels. The tone is totally different. If this is the first one you listen to it’s ok.

Great story well read
Great story well read. The story line is well thought out and masterfully written. The performance adds greatly to the overall effect. If it’s a correct metaphor for a recorded book, this one is a “page turner”

Pulp Fiction with quirky-good narrator
This one was good for escape. I listen to tons of books while I travel. This one is strictly airport lounge material
with lots of formula setups and some stilted but o.k. writing. I tried some of this writer's stuff a couple years back
but the reader on that one was atrocious and sent me reaching for the air-sick bag. This audio is different and
is actually entertaining. A story of political assassination in the Swamp with plenty of parallels to the real deal.
There's a hit in this that bears a stark resemblance to the Seth Rich murder 2 years ago. The courtroom stuff is
good but a bit much and the author has an annoying tendency to comment on everything which good writers just
don't do. Not a Hemingway or a LeCarre or even a Grisham. And he works at being funny sometimes but he's not
really funny so he might lose the cute endings to so many of the chapters and just play to his strength. And why
is the woman who is supposed to be clever and dynamic, relegated to the kitchen by the middle of this potboiler? Girls like me who like guys stories don't find that very sexy.
that said there are lots of interesting characters that drive home the action. The narrator in this starts slow and sounds
like John Malcovich with a hangover. Not a good sign. Then all of a sudden a couple of chapters in, he hits another
gear thank god and the ride really gets fun. There's a cool black detective, a bunch of heavies, a psycho hitman, a special ops guy, all of them spot on and fun. Then there's a soy-boy who works as a gopher for the big heavy. That was entertaining. You see those guys everywhere nowadays,-brown nosers and pc creeps. Robbie Mook the soy-boy who worked for the Clinton operation comes to mind. Disgusting climbers and rug munchers.
I rarely give 5 stars so keep that in mind. And I love to write reviews for everything I listen to because I'm pretty well read and I think many reviews are just fakes. Imo this piece needs editing to make it tighter. Where was the editor?

Well written Poorly narrated
A great book, but when James Conlan narrated all four of the other books, it just wasn’t the same without him. I wish you would stick with one narrator for a series!
