A skeleton is found on a remote cycling track near a small village, 2 hours drive from Melbourne. The find sets off an investigation which the local police have passed on to their city counterparts....With little to go on and a cold case from the same area re-opened the city cops are stumped..... Mike Cannon and his partner Michelle are on holiday. For Cannon it's a working holiday. He has been asked to help a local trainer, Peter Brownlow, prepare a horse to race in the Grand Annual, one of the longest horse races in the world. A race which includes more fences than any other race anywhere. Cannon is in his element until the police ask questions about the cold case...a body found dressed in jockey silks...a man who used to work for Pete. As the investigation continues, a killer strikes again....but what is the motive? Cannon suddenly finds himself in a place he doesn't want to be .. he is focused on the Grand Annual but death is following him. The police need answers and Cannon finds himself being dragged into finding the killer.As the day of the Grand Annual draws closer, a rival trainer hopes to win the race but will he stop at nothing in order to do so? In the sleepy town of Apollo Bay, the fishing trawler San Marino makes a rendezvous with a large container ship...why?
