To rescue his girlfriend, a weed dealer scraps for a score.

The suitcase looks like a standard weekend bag. But like the man who carries it, it isn't what it seems. Lined with tinfoil to mask the smell, it is a smuggler's bag and will soon be filled to the brim with marijuana bricks.

The smuggler is a Harvard student who has come to California to make his fortune. Michael Crichton wrote a number of very good pulp novels early in his career. This isn’t one of them. It’s a mediocre late 60s hippie novel about a college kid drug dealer that had less plot than a $2 joint. Get some of his better books written as John Lange.

I've been working my way through all of Crichton's early works. This one was still enjoyable but many strands were left unexplained. Clearly not his best work.

I recently discovered the "pre-Michael Crichton" series he wrote in the late 1960's / early 1970's when writing under the pseudonym of John Lange and have thoroughly enjoyed these books. This one, however, was my least favorite and I didn't make it past the second hour before turning it off for good. Granted, it was co-written by Michael and his brother Douglas - so we can't exactly blame Michael for the disappointment. The story line is weak and seems to go nowhere. I don't often review books and suggest people skip them completely, but this one is an exception - this one is a complete waste of time.
