In the cold, bitter wasteland known as the Deadlands, it's hunt or be hunted.
Somewhere on this frozen hellscape lurks a sinister demon, a creature hellbent on destroying the world as we know it.
Natives call it the Wendigo—a spawn of Hell that embodies famine and pestilence.
But its curse is not like that of a Lycan or Undead…
A Wendigo's curse preys on the minds of mortal men.
With the help of hostile environments, the Wendigo can make a weak-minded man see paradise,
Tempting them with comfortable lies much better than harsh reality…
And while their prey is in a state of comatose, Wendigos claim their bodies as hosts.
But Drakini of Fyrefell has never had an ordinary mind…
Her schizophrenic mind allows her to see creatures that don't actually exist.
With the help of these creatures, only she can defy these Deadlands.
Now, she stands as humanity's final hope against this demonic horde.
If she can't learn how to shatter the Wendigos' illusions, all of humanity will be lost.
©2024 Devin Thorpe (P)2025 Devin ThorpeDevin Thorpe wrote such a story, and he wrote it very well. Even if you're not a fan if this genre, if you listen to this book, I am sure you will find much in it to like.
The narrator, Bonnie Walsh, does a phenomenal job at the difficult task of bringing so many varied characters to life. Her voice identified the universal topics and paced her reading appropriately. Ms. Walsh added depth to the story's words and to the characters themselves by evoking drama without overreaching and certainly without overacting.
This was a fun 'read' and when it ended, I was left with that 'I'm going to miss this book' feeling.
Now that it's over, I'm going to miss it.
