This would be the first novel by this author that I’ve read and my goodness what an amazing read it is!! From beginning to end I was completely enthralled and thoroughly engaged. The author begins this unique tale by telling us not just one story, but simultaneously two different stories about two very different people who seemingly have no connections to each other’s lives in any way. One a successful heart surgeon, the other a disabled individual with a horrible disfigurement and some questionable personal hobbies.

As the stories go along each progressing in their own enjoyable ways the reader is beginning to wonder what the heck is going on with these two different stories and whether or not they will come together and connect at some point. Once the reader finds the answer to that mystery, (that for more than a few chapter’s at this point have become all consuming) all hell breaks loose! And the story takes a deep dive into some dark gruesome corners.

In giving reviews I try not to give out spoilers. Or even synopsis type reviews for that matter because if you can’t find it on the back of the book you’re certain to find it in half a dozen other page reviews. So at most, (for whatever it’s worth) you are just going to get my two cents and all I can tell you about Dead Man’s Heart is that it is a helluva good book and I highly recommend it! It is written well with strong, likable, and unlikable characters. I would classify it as horror, psychological thriller, serial killer, gore, revenge.

My mind kept coming back to one thought through the course of this story and that was: Do men make monsters? Or are they just born evil?

This story carries a dark and relentless tone that will appeal to fans of gritty horror and psychological suspense. The atmosphere is heavy and foreboding, and the narrative steadily builds tension as the story unfolds.

What makes this book stand out is its commitment to darkness. The story doesn’t soften its edges or shy away from the unsettling themes that drive the plot forward.

If you enjoy horror that focuses on atmosphere, dread, and the lingering presence of evil, Dead Man’s Heart is a gripping experience.

A haunting listen for fans of brutal and uncompromising horror.

Audiobook Review
Author: Axl Malton

Title: Dead Man’s Heart
Book Rating: 4 Stars
Audio Rating: 3.75 Stars
Genre: Psychological Thriller/Horror

Axl has a way of making me feel really uncomfortable with his stories, and I do mean that as a compliment. Most horror novels go for the gross-out or jump scares, but the way Axl writes gets under my skin even more than most horror novels. He can write characters and scenes that seem all too real and build up anticipation that really gets at me.

In Dead Man’s Heart, we follow Bruce Campbell—no, not the Evil Dead Bruce—while he becomes the best heart surgeon in the country, all to make sure his son Tim has the best chances. Tim was born with a degenerative heart condition, which really drove Bruce into his field. During Tim’s 18th birthday party, the worst-case scenario happens, and Bruce needs to find his son a heart. During all of this, we also follow a killer who is hell-bent on revenge and has Bruce in his sights.

Dead Man’s Heart is a gripping thriller that holds nothing back and is utterly ruthless. No one is safe in this story, and that is what I really liked about it. Axl Malton made this story all too real, and it was something that could easily happen to anyone. Each word felt deliberate, and there was no fluff in the story, although at times I felt like there was, but everything paid off in the end.

The narrator was a little too dry at times, and that kept me from really falling into the story, but once I got going, it started to smooth out, and I was able to block everything out and fully embrace the story.

If you are looking for a gripping thriller with some horror elements, pick up Dead Man’s Heart by Axl Malton on Amazon or the audio on Audible. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you highly entertained.
