When Dorsey Armstrong, young widowed mother and Marshal of the quaint resort town of Briar’s Folly, TX, met Tyron McGee, Director of the Brazos Chautauqua Institute that abutted the town for the second time, they were looking at the nude body of a young male by the side of a back road which ran between the town and the institute.

Dorsey suspects McGee is not simply an academic PhD administrator, but some kind of spy. And McGee, English Literature scholar, believes she may be what is missing from his life. They both could be right.

As Dorsey attempts to solve the unsolvable and defend herself from a crooked county sheriff, and while McGee deals with whiny instructors and a love triangle of a wealthy and handsome adult student, an eccentric classicist lecturer, and an attractive pottery instructor, the murderer becomes emboldened to plan for the murder another victim.
