Evan Currie is a busy man with various series and he very talented. Have been waiting for the next On Silver Wings book to be released. It was and a few days later complete. Left me needing more and more. Now I have to wait for the next one.....

Aida goes back to her roots

De Oppresso Liber is Evan Currie's 6th installment in the On Silver Wings series. This time out, captain Aida Soria leads a special ops onto a recently discovered inhabited planet that the Ross appear to be playing out like Hayden. This gravity well however is home to an intelligent, indigenous race that have not yet advanced sufficiently for Alliance consideration. While Aida's mission is to train an native, insurgent, guerrilla force, her natural tendencies rise to the surface and she uncovers the real intentions of the Ross world invasion and discovers buried secrets that may tip the balance of Alliance power and put Earth on an equal footing with the Ross.

The sci-fi elements continue with an alien theme. The new alien race, while overall humanoid, are uniquely distinct and intriguing. There's also more exploration of Alliance history, especially concerning the Grav, the Ross' natural enemy and the only entity that has been able to fight them to a standstill. At this point, Currie has constructed a comprehensive universe with an interesting mix of alien cultures, galactic politics, and solid, endearing recurring characters. The potential for future installments is wide open at this point.

The narration is performed superbly with an excellent range of voices of both genders. At the same time, alien voices are rendered in a unique style that adds to the performance.

Good but not Great...

The whitty banter in the heat of battle was less than believable., and mildly distracting. otherwise a good read.

maybe it's just me

This story had potential but the narrators dry delivery made it hard to get into. I think there was a lot of action in this book but you wouldn't know it because the narrator's tone never wavered. I was also dissapointed that the author did not provide much texture to the environment and the charachters felt flat and bland.

Same old story

I like evan Currie but this book series isn't worth the time. Started extra slow forcing me to jump almost 14 chapters ahead and pieced the story together. in the Odyssey series Currie takes time to describe the actual fighting but in this book not so much. I don't know if I want to continue with the series

Annoying reader

I like the stories in this series but I couldn't tell whether the writing has degraded or it was just the annoying performance.

Aida and Story Experiencing Burnout

A big let-down in many ways: a) Way too much repetitive discussion on how inscrutable and ruthless the Ross'El were, b) out-of-character Aida philosophy-waxing and even "war-is-hell" preachy at times, c) bringing down army troops as lead force on the insurgency and then landing the marines much time later, d) a mere captain (Aida) given the authority to call a "Zulu" audible to bring forth the 10 meter titans and break mission critical overt status, e) the 10s of tons of titans being able to instantly jump over 20 meters in the air using their thruster power which by definition are only maneuvering rockets, f) the same titan to use that jump to artfully place a jujitsu-like titan knee face plant on an approaching enemy golem, g) Aida being able to gain a rudimentary understanding of an ancient Grav starship within a few minutes because ... polyglot.

In the end, Aida did get one thing right, she should have stayed a first sergeant.

With that said, the writing and narration were still good; it was just the story that had degraded.

Interesting world building (universe I suppose). Boring perfect at everything main character.

This is a well made universe with many potential storylines. I like the various unique technologies, which really help to pull me into the story.

Sadly the always right, always good at anything, runs out and fights like a 80's action star with storm trooper thug villain incompetent opposition destroys the immersion.

I don't understand. The book has many side characters who are interesting to follow. I wish he'd get rid of Aida and just have the crew of the ship work together to overcome obstacles, and maybe give them a tie breaker instead of overwhelming victory all the time.

The main villains of the story just seem like jokes at this point. They can literally march their entire army onto any world, but end up fleeing as soon as one women army Aida shows up leaving their tech fully intact for the humans to take.
