But in the months that follow, Takako surprises herself when she develops a passion for Japanese literature, becomes a regular at a local coffee shop where she makes new friends, and eventually meets a young editor from a nearby publishing house who’s going through his own messy breakup.

But just as she begins to find joy again, Hideaki reappears, forcing Takako to rely once again on her uncle, whose own life has begun to unravel. Together, these seeming opposites work to understand each other and themselves as they continue to share the wisdom they’ve gained in the bookshop.

It kind of fell flat for me.

My book club bought me brought me here. Shout out to book and bottle St Pete. Something about the story just kind of fell flat for me. I wouldn’t say that I liked it. There wasn’t a whole lot going on. It was just kind of real people doing real things and showed you how prim and proper and formal Japan is.

Improtance of standing still

Oh how I hope I have Takako’s uncle. I felt that in every part of the story, all the emotions are shown valid. Maybe a simple storyline, but it surely tugged something inside of me. It made me giggle, tear up and happy. I’m so glad I came upon this book

Good book & good performance

It is lighthearted & almost feels like a warm hug to your soul. This book is also good for beginner :)

Peaceful and Centering

this helped me find a certain peace I've been craving. I find myself thinking about going to the morisaki bookshop to center myself.

Felt like a warm hug all the way through and the normality of it all was lovely.

Simple and mostly unbelievable plot

Initially, I thought the book was going to be simple and sappy. However, the more I read, the more I enjoyed the characters. By the end, I found them to be endearing, although the aunt was a bit overbearing and….weird!

Enjoyable Characters and Setting

I loved this book about a young woman finding her place in the world. The characters are interesting and relatable. Heartwarming and a nice little vacation from the cares of the world.

Easy listen. Really well performed. Storyline is fun. The narrator does a great job. Recommend for anyone wanting a relaxing read.

Light hearted

Very cute and warm story that shows you everything happens for a reason. Your biggest heartbreak can lead to beautiful things! And sometimes all you need is your family on the way.

First Audible I've read! Loving it!

I like the simple storytelling and the way how Japanese culture is reflected. This Asian novel is magnificent!

Also love the person who performed the narration.

I am rooting for the next book.
