In spare, brutal prose he describes a world where where the will to survive overrides compassion, and prisoners eat, work, and sleep a few yards from where others are murdered; where the difference between human beings is reduced to a second bowl of soup, an extra blanket, or the luxury of a pair of shoes with thick soles; and where the line between normality and abnormality vanishes.

Nothing like Night
I bought this book because I enjoyed his first book NIGHT so much. This is not an extension of it. It is another character and has a fictional twist to it. It was OK - but would not listen to it again - as I would NIGHT.

Performance is good, story is powerful
I enjoyed this book. I listened to it pretty much all in one sitting. My only complaint is that the chronology can be a bit hard to follow. Also, this book is very "literary" for lack of a better word. Even the dialogue is consistently too eloquent to be believed. Still, a great book with a powerful message though.

Meh
The author clearly has a tortured mind and heart after what he went through. Who wouldn’t? The story was not as well written or organized as Night or Dawn. Still worth a listen, but Night is the real star of the trilogy.

Great reading
Couldn't wait to get some downtime to listen to this, great writing it kept your imagination engaged and the narrator was absolutely perfect for this story. I liked it so much I also downloaded another book by this author.

A powerful story.
Day was my least favorite part of the Night Trilogy, but it is still worth a read. The story is of a man who struggles to love again and find happiness after such terrible suffering. The message was powerful, but it wasn't as gripping as Dawn and certainly wasn't as powerful as Night. George Guidall is wonderful as usual.

Confusing and depressing
Very much a depressing book and weird. It was hard to follow and listen to. The narrator was wonderful but both the 1st novel, dawn and this sequel were not good. His story (Night) about his Holocaust terror was very good. Sad and disturbing but good.
