Acerca de esta escucha

My memoir depicts my life living in my home town of Middlesbrough. It then had the highest rates of unemployment in the UK. I witnessed the decline of its Iron and Steel, Chemical and Shipbuilding industries leaving tens of thousands of local people out of work. While living as a long time unemployed, unmarried, single mother with my two beautiful girls, both with different fathers, I found myself at the lowest echelon of society. I endured years of ostracisation, poverty and social exclusion. My narrative revolves around my unwavering Christian faith and while gratefully supported by 'not for profit' community and faith organisations that all worked for truth and justice, I was motivated to challenge the hierarchical economic structures that fail to recognise the worth of every individual, whether in paid work or not. I expose the government's blatant scapegoating of marginalised groups such as single parents, the young unemployed, the homeless, those in debt, people of different faiths, sanctuary seekers, and those navigating LGTBQ issues. The ongoing government scapegoating of many of these people often serves as a smokescreen for their unjust social and economic policies. Moreover I confront all forms of prejudice while offering guidance on fostering unity among diverse individuals. Delving deeper into the lives of people, I discovered the profound beauty that lies within the overlooked and marginalised groups in society. As I immersed myself in their world's, I uncovered stories of resilience, strength and untapped potential that absolutely challenged my preconceptions. It became truly evident to me that by understanding and embracing the experiences of these individuals, this would unlock transformative solutions to complex social and economic injustices that we all face in this chaotic world today. It was a great privilege for me to work with these overlooked and marginalised people, shining brightly, in places that I came to describe as DARK HOLY GROUND.

A Global Adventure of Courage and Compassion

I found Linda Granville's book to be one of the most moving books I have read/listened to in many years. Like a pilgrim or saint, Linda leaves an England that is struggling economically as factories closed and industries realigned leaving desperate people and families in their wake. Linda heads off by herself on a journey of discovery that takes her from England to Australia to the Middle East. The huge value of this memoir is that it chronicles another side of our world's reality - the lives of those left behind and marginalized by our fast paced, money driven modern world. Linda's mission is one of shining a light on some of these people and letting everyone know that there are solutions that benefit everyone. It is the extraordinary goodness in the hearts and Spirit of those she meets that will give you hope for our future. Few of the problems and injustices that Linda discovers have been solved but Linda points to a positive path of lifting these people up and empowering them to build the solutions for themselves. This book is a prayer that you will do whatever you can to lend a hand. Linda has had a very tough life by most people's standards, but you will never hear her complain. There is so much to care about in this book, and it is very clear that all Linda wants is for you to fire up the love and compassion in your heart and do something, anything to make a difference and help us to be a better world family recognizing that the pains and injustices of the world affect us all. Linda's book is a plea for us to become the change we would like to see in the world.
