How much the narrator makes the story

I am a big fan of Collaci as narrator, but on this one? Totally misses the mark. Otherwise the story is a good one!

We are led breathlessly along by the narrator through the twists and turns of a.dark mystery of ,"does she really care?"All the while being crushed by the dark tunnels with their monsters just around the corner.

Full of excitement and emotion.

This is my favorite Monk book yet. It was a thrilling ride from start to finish. The narration is excellent and delivers the story beautifully. Scruff the street urchin who seems to take Monk under his wing is so endearing. He is my favorite new character in this story. Roses antics at the funeral was hysterical. It was like a breath of fresh air. I imagined that in my head as a rebellious rock and roll chick in Victorian times. Just letting her hair down. To be a woman in these times, well let’s just say I glad it wasn’t me. Keep up the great work Ms. Perry and I will keep reading or listening!

What a ride!!!!!!!

I just love this series. Anne Perry has really created her world with a solid foundation so she can add characters, change Monk and Hester's jobs, change the area of London they're in, but she always keeps this series evolving which makes it so interesting.
I love these characters and how Ms. Perry makes them act according to their alignment, fleshing out their lives and giving those lives real meaning. These characters feel so "human" to me. So human that at times I hear a whisper, I hear a sound, and feel Hester and Monk...two silver-flash smiles....and then they're gone.

Whirlwind

This book was a whirlwind of action and excitement from the beginning. Monk and Hester are both adjusting to to roles and circumstances. His as an Inspector with the Thames River Police and hers as a stay at home wife. They've moved and there are many new characters added. My favorite new character was Rose Applegate. She was a breath of fresh air, and delivered my favorite line from the book. Some of my favorite secondary characters have returned. The mystery is multilayered so solving it wasn't easy. It was a wonderful story which offered some potential changes in the series.

The history of old England is brought to life in this story

Anne Perry has so much understanding of English history to give through her fictional characters and wonderful stories of by-gone days. I so appreciate the gifts of her mind.
