Ruth Messinger, acting as the event's moderator, is the president and executive director of American Jewish World Service, which works to alleviate poverty, hunger, and disease in the developing world and build Jewish life in Russia and the Ukraine.
Gerald Martone is the director of emergency response for the International Rescue Committee and has participated in several missions to Darfur.
John Prendergast, a former director of African Affairs for the National Security Council and special advisor to the State Department, is special advisor to the president of the International Crisis Group.
In this appearance at the 92nd Street Y, Messinger, Prendergast, and Martone discuss the issues, what is being done to improve the situation, and what more people can do. Also hear what you can do to help stop this tragedy from those who have been on the front line.

For over the past 10 years, the Darfur region of Sudan has been in a state of humanitarian emergency. Through Sudanese government forces and the Janjaweed militias, hundreds of thousands of civilians have been tortured, displaced, and killed. In an effort to spread awareness of this horrible situation, the 92nd Street Y has brought together Ruth Messinger, Gerald Martone, and John Prendergast for a night of conversation that not only educates listeners, but provides information on what individuals can do to help those in Darfur.
