Absolutely Hillarious!

I really like the zombie apocalypse subgenre. I read the spectrum of them from the very serious to the spoofs and from the science-based virus-style infection to the supernatural cause. So it is with some authority that I state that this was one of the best zombie apocalypse novels I have ever read. It has a solid plot that would fit in nicely with any book in the genre (three men trying to reunite with their families as the world falls apart around them) but it’s the extraordinary level of humor that lifts this book to the top of the ladder.

The novel opens with our three dads (John, Chris and Erik) at the bowling alley where they have been forced to join a league by the much-hated president of their Home Owners Association. The three men don’t appear to like each other very much and it’s fairly clear that at least one of them (John) probably isn’t liked by much of anyone. The laughs start early in the chapter and continue to the end of the book. The banter between these three men is superb as Wallace draws out each man’s very distinctive character. Forced to walk home because they’ve been drinking, the zombie apocalypse comes to unlife around them and they don’t notice. By morning, the world has gone to hell and our three dads are trying to figure out how to find their families and reconnect with them.

Then the mistakes begin. In many of these novels the heroes are super smart and physically capable. They kill zombies better than Rambo. That does not describe our dads. John, especially, has an almost superhuman ability to do something stupid. And these blunders both add to the tension and create extraordinarily funny situations. Laugh out loud funny. Grab your sides funny. Rip yourself a new hernia funny. Get your eighteen-year-old son to start listening to the book with you funny. It’s that good.

It also took me in directions I didn’t expect several times. Part of this is because John continually does such comically stupid things. But many are also just good plot twists. I was sorry when the book came to an end because I just wasn’t done listening to it yet. Fortunately, I see on Audible that Dads vs. the World is coming so the humor will continue.

This is great buddy book read by the fantastic Phil Toronto. LOL FUNNY and worth another future read!

A Title Carried by its Characters

Let’s keep it short and simple: Dads vs Zombies is a title that is carried by it’s relatable characters that are trying their best to survive both an apocalypse and the expectations of being men, and that is what makes this book so good. The characters are funny, dramatic, and most importantly: relatable. The story doesn’t try to be the next great American novel, and that’s okay. It sticks in its lane and allows itself to be a feel good book that is neither too dramatic nor too comedic and never overstays it’s welcome. The narrator does a fine job as well. Our heroes each have a voice of their own, and you’ll recognize them quickly. Dads vs Zombies is a simple and fun title that I’ll be playing many times over the years. It’s worth a full credit. Enjoy!

Hilarious

I avoided this book for a dumb reason - I didn’t like the picture of the cover. Dumb, I know. But I just finished it and loved it. Hilarious, book with a few twists here and there. Phil Thron is a tremendous narrator and his delivery just made me laugh. Just downloaded the next in the series and fired up to read it. 5*

Hilarious!

This book is awesome! Fun and hilarious! The whole argument towards the end about donuts almost left me in tears I was laughing so hard! The constant banter between these three guys, the dialogue, more than the story is what makes this book. It's not your typical zombie book.

awesome ride! First you hate but then you love!

You start off by hating the main character. You also don't like his friends much. Yet, few chapters into it you just fall in love. It just keeps delivering and making you happy after that. Thank you, Benjamin Wallace ;)

Dads vs Zombies

I really, really liked this. I liked the goofy characters stumbling from one bad decision and/or situation to the next. I liked the story line. But I loved all the one liners! I was laughing so hard at these silly grown men. I will definitely listen to this again in the near future. I received this for free for an honest review.

Well written and hilarious

This book made me laugh out loud. A different zombie apocalypse. 3 neighbor Dads struggle to find there family after the zombie virus hits.

Good short listen

Not certain how this story will continue but I’d like an answer to that....
Phil did a great job narrating.
It’s a good quick listen. I did feel like there should be something ‘before’ this story begins.
Zombies are my thing so I will definitely be looking for the next one.

You know that gif going around with Ben Stiller wearing a big wig and ridiculous open collar shirt with the words “Do it” flashing along the bottom? Yeah, that would do justice for this series. Pick it up. Laugh. Enjoy another great series and narration.
