Some of our fondest memories in the kitchen are of being young and watching our grandmothers lovingly making cookies, pies, cakes and other amazing desserts for us, and showing us how to do it, even if we were too young to understand all of the steps or the magic that went into Nana’s delicious and sweet treats. Those experiences, in fact, are what inspired many of us to become professional chefs. As we got older and learned more about cooking and baking, we paid even closer attention to our grandmothers’ recipes, taking notes and understanding how it all came together, how the simple ingredients they used came together in such perfect harmony. But the main thing we learned was that all the best ingredients in the world, and all of the cooking and baking expertise in the kitchen, won’t make for the best desserts you’ve ever tasted unless you also cook with love. Perhaps that sounds sappy, but it’s true! Love goes a long way to making memorable desserts that you, your family and your friends will want to enjoy again and again. This cookbook contains classic and timeless recipes for cakes, cookies, pies, crumbles, puddings, fruit desserts, no-bake desserts and so much more that we learned from our cherished grandmas over the years, some of which we’ve put our own spin on. Our Nanas always said that traditions are important, but that each generation should put their own mark, however small, on what they’re doing before they pass it along to others. That’s what they did. That’s what we’ve done. That way, the traditions stay alive and are shaped by the love of many people. It’s all about love. Many of our grandmoms are no longer with us, but their spirit, their love, and their amazing desserts live in these pages that we are so happy to share with you.
