DANIEL'S PROMISE

Without any warning, the ground opened suddenly under their feet and swallowed them. This happened on a kibbutz somewhere between the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea, where Daniel – a demobilized soldier and only son of a bereaved mother – met Becky, a Christian American girl. Becky was in Israel to help scan the archive of Daniel’s grandmother, a Holocaust survivor endowed with a sharp tongue and a sharp mind. The two young people are drawn to each other, but a cultural and religious barrier separates them. However, a chance accident causes them to fall together into a deep sinkhole and become trapped in a dark cave. Then, in imminent danger of death, love breaks down all barriers. Daniel’s promise to Becky is the beginning of a happy married life – although studded with obstacles – and also the start of a common journey in search of faith.
