Reseñas editoriales

Alby Murdoch wishes he was "parked on a cane chair" in Bali, surveying beauty with a gin-and-tonic in his hand. Listeners will be glad he’s not. During a breezy, action-packed, comic thriller that comes in at just under six hours, performer Peter Hosking treats listeners to a crisp, smiling Australian accent and a spy novel that scintillates with images ready for the movies.

In D-E-D Dead, Murdoch’s partner is gunned down, Murdoch is tripped up by razor wires and buried mines, and finally presented with a formidable challenge by the U.S. military itself. On top of it all, an irresistible femme fatale named Grace Goodluck promises anything but good luck.

Resumen del Editor

From the moment Alby drops his gun on a St Kilda tram he knows he's in for a bad day. Then his partner Harry is gunned down in a Double Bay coffee shop. By lunchtime Alby realizes someone wants him dead - and they want him dead now. All Alby wants is some pasta, a good bottle of wine and to know more about the mysterious Grace Goodluck: long dark hair, legs up to there, and piercing slate-grey eyes. But he also has to figure out who shot Harry and who wants him dead, and why. Unfortunately for Alby, the answer lies over the razor wire and past the anti-personnel mines protecting Bitter Springs, a top-secret US military facility deep in the central Australian desert. Now that can really ruin your day.

Fun spy thriller

What made the experience of listening to D-E-D Dead! the most enjoyable?

Deep it isn't, but there's a lightness of touch and an almost ironic sense of bemusement that plays around the edges of absurdity, that makes the listening experience always amusing.

Any additional comments?

If you like your books playful and not requiring a huge intellectual investment DED Dead is a good way to pass a few hours.

Fun - but not the anti-American Sentiments

Loved loved loved this book. However, not fond of the negative anti-American snide remarks. However our heroine is an American. So, there you go..... I had to slow down the narration a hair as Aussies talk fast, and you need to slow it down to get all the humor. His other books I've listened to are favorites of mine, but a bit post-war dark. So this was so refreshing as to how funny the author really is. You have to be funny in real life in order to write like this.

At last! A fictional truth about 'Bitter Springs'

Geoffrey McGeachin won the 2011 Ned Kelly, which is the Australian Crime writers award, for another of his stories recently released on Audible.
At under 6 hours listening time this is a delightful race through the underbelly of spying in Australia. While the name of the organisation may be as fictional as The Springs, the joint US/Australian facility in Central Australia, there may well be a dark room on the 13th floor of an office block in Sydney.
Alby's thesis for his Masters Degree is on WMD to his boss's delight until the Boss finally reads the abstract. And just how accidental is it that Grace Goodluck looks just like a Balinese goddess? Even the obsession with culinary delights has not escaped McGeachin's humour. Who knows? Alby may be right about that US/Australian facility in Central Australia!

The naration was not that good and the story was weak. Not going to recommend to anyone.
