What happens when you spend your life chasing curiosity instead of climbing ladders?
Steve Alcorn has designed theme park attractions for Disney, founded a company that powers rides worldwide, taught over 100,000 students to write novels, authored 27 books, traveled the globe, raised a family, and somehow managed to avoid taking himself too seriously. This is the story of how curiosity — not careful planning — led to an extraordinary life at the intersection of engineering and creativity.
From the underbelly of EPCOT on opening day to a rooftop overlooking Future World at sunrise. From hand-soldering circuit boards to standing in front of classrooms. From sidewalk cafés in Paris to boardrooms in Tokyo. These adventures reveal what happens when you refuse to choose between the technical and the creative, between building companies and building stories.
Inside you'll discover:
• Growing up as an "impractical engineer" who loved both circuits and storytelling
• The behind-the-scenes chaos of designing EPCOT Center for Disney
• Building Alcorn McBride from scratch into the industry leader
• Teaching 100,000+ students how to structure their novels
• Balancing entrepreneurship, writing, teaching, and family
• Lessons learned from success, failure, and everything in between
• Why following your curiosity beats following a plan
Curious by Design is part memoir, part guidebook for anyone who's ever felt torn between multiple passions. It's proof that you don't have to pick just one thing — and that the most interesting life happens where disciplines overlap.
