Resumen del Editor

In this audiobook, we will assemble a framework you can use to address life’s biggest questions, including:

  • Who is God and what does He have to do with you and me?
  • Why does the world look and act the way it does?
  • What are we supposed to be doing with our lives?

You might be wondering how on Earth an audiobook like this will be able to provide thoughtful answers to those questions and others. The reason is that it is based very carefully on a much bigger book - the Bible. However, we are not going to look at a bunch of Bible verses and try to come up with nice ways of applying those verses to our lives. Call me skeptical, but I do not expect a thinking person to bend his or her worldview only because I can present a relevant quote followed by a verse reference. If it were that easy, we could just as well be seeing major religions based on Shakespeare.

So here is what I propose: let’s look at the Bible as a whole. I do not mean we are going to take an academic look at Biblical history or tattered remnants of manuscript. There are plenty of books on those subjects - some better than others. What I mean is we are going to look at the whole message of the Bible. We are going to examine the assumptions the Bible presents and test those assumptions to see if they hold together. If God has indeed inspired the Bible, and if He has intended to communicate with us through it, then there is great value to be had in not only listening to the words but also in learning to adopt the perspective from which those words were inspired.

Whether you are a long-time student of the Bible or you are merely curious to see what all of the fuss is about, it is well worth making the effort to understand the “big picture” from God’s perspective as communicated in the Bible. For the devout Christian, this audiobook will give you much to consider in your daily devotions. For the wisdom-seeker, it details a worldview so potent that it has not only had a drastic shift on the course of human history, but also a profoundly personal impact on how millions of individuals relate to the God of the universe.

Great Content & Approach to Important Questions

I’m an avid podcast listener, so I opted for the audio version of the book to listen to on my way to and from work. It was a great book for this type of environment and is divided into several manageable chapters. Crux Matters really focuses on a simple logical explanation of Christianity from the ground up.

One of the things that I think most readers will appreciate is that J.M. Gheen is a normal guy and he’s not writing an academic book for academic circles. This book is practical and provides thoughtful answers to some of the most basic issues in Christianity. His efforts in putting this book together reminds us that Christianity is not a faith for the religious elite, but a faith that is actively lived out by everyday followers of Jesus. Gheen’s personal pursuit is clearly evidenced in this book and I believe that the person who reads it will be challenged and forced to think about his own faith, as well. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for honest and understandable answers to the foundational beliefs of the Christian faith.
