Good story

This was a fun book to listen to. Amanda Uhl is very creative and put much thought into this story. The tension between the two main characters was ever present as they navigate through dangerous situations and discover their feelings for each other. The book really started picking up near the end as plot was made more clear and the resolutions began to unfold.

Geneva finds herself working with a guy she’s always been attracted to, but who behaves as though he hates her, on a job, looking for a missing agent. As she uses her gift (the ability to see auras and track them) to hunt for her, Geneva starts to encounter issues with her powers. Is there something wrong with her, or is the enemy interfering? Their situation continues to get worse as the enemy seems to be staying a few steps ahead of then the whole way.

The plot is great. I gave the story 4 stars because the story is too hard to follow. As I listen to the battles and encounters, I had too much trouble understanding what was actually happening. So, I settled for waiting to see what the resolution was. There were several times where new convenient powers were revealed for the first time when needed, like walking through walls and bringing someone back from death. This took away from the flow of the story.

The reader (The Author), did ok reading the book. There was a chapter near the end where she recorded herself running out of breath while reading. Also, as she spoke for all the characters, they all seemed equally emotionless. They all seemed to sound alike in tone. Some voices were higher or lower in pitch, but they all seemed to have the same frank, matter of fact attitude. I would love to hear this book read by a professional voice actor.

The language was ok. There were only a few bad words. There was quite a bit of touchy-feely romance and there was a slightly descriptive extramarital sex scene that I would have preferred not to experience.

In conclusion, I love the story, but the characters need to be better people (role models), the battles need to be explained more carefully, the rules (how the gifts work and who has them) need to be settled near the beginning of the story, and the reader needs to make it sound more real.
