Hosted by Henry and Priscilla Wimbush, the house party has much to offer the naive Denis. The guests include the self-contained Anne, whom Denis adores; the handsome artist Gombauld, his rival for Anne's affections; and the cynical Mr. Scogan. All have their stories and ideas to unfold but, as Denis comes to realize, ideas cannot compensate for reality.
This is the first novel penned by Aldous Huxley; it launched his storied writing career, which included Brave New World, The Doors of Perception, and Mortal Coils.

A great story very well narrated
Huxley manages to really make the people in this story come alive emotionally. Every character is distinct and although a caricature, never two-dimensional.
The narrator elevates the entire story with his performance.

A hidden gem
This is one of my favorite books, and a marvel of an audio book.
As a period piece, the humor of the time could be lost on the 21st century reader if simply read; Michael Maloney's grasp on the characters and culture allows him to go beyond the script, embodying Aldous Huxley's vision in a way that is clear, authentic, and straight up funny.

Michael Maloney, brilliant as usual
One can only listen to his readings of Put Out More Flags and Decline and Fall so many times before needing to branch out to new satirical material. This hit the spot.

NOT Science Fiction!!!!!!!
I bought it because it kept being suggested to me when I was searching for classic science fiction because "Brave New World" is already in my library. Not bad for what it is & would be perfect adapted as a Broadway play; ThSt being said it isn't SciFi & not what I was looking for. I wouldn't have finished it if I hadn't already psyed for it.
