There will come a time when mankind must seek new homes as Earth is full up. There are two ways to do this: new planets, and huge space stations. Those stations are already on the drawing boards. We will find ways to expand a simple station to hold a half million people, someday, but that is a long way out. And we will need many of them.
This is not a warning. It is merely a test that stood for a long time and would have remained forever, had they not met aliens. If they are out there, they are not part of the plan and things can go awry. Enjoy!
