In a world ravaged by war and a devastating virus that kills on your 30th birthday, humanity's last hope soars through the skies aboard massive airships. The Revenant, commanded by the respected Captain Jim Thackleford, becomes a sanctuary for survivors fleeing the mysterious Trench—cybernetically enhanced beings bent on humanity's extinction.

When New Britton falls under attack, the Thackleford family's world shatters. Twelve-year-old JJ and his fifteen-year-old brother Tommy find themselves thrust into a desperate flight aboard The Revenant. As they struggle with devastating personal losses, the ship's crew battles not just the Trench, but also vicious Marauders led by Kale Rickon — a former Monarch officer transformed by Trench experiments into something barely human.

Hope arrives in unlikely forms: brilliant twin researchers who may hold the key to understanding the deadly Nustrus virus, a flamboyant former engineer whose theatrical nature masks crucial technical knowledge, and the unbreakable bonds forged between crew members in the face of overwhelming odds.

Crimson Horizon is a gripping tale of survival, sacrifice, and the price of duty. Author David A. Lambert weaves together military science fiction and human drama as The Revenant's crew fights to protect their makeshift family while searching for a way to save humanity itself. With richly developed characters, intense action sequences, and a meticulously crafted world, this first installment of The Revenant Chronicles will leave listeners eagerly anticipating what comes next.

The story is good, but what makes it is the Narrator. He truly keeps you engaged in the story and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The voices are great! Characters are easy to follow. I’ll definitely be looking for more of his audio books!

Excellent Narration

The narration was captivating. He kept me engrossed in the story like few have. It was more of a movie than a book at times, as if I was personally there. The story itself was well done. It provided the space/sci-fi backdrop of a Terminator feel, but with more depth. The character backstories are amazing, only further amplified by an outstanding performance. The only thing I would critique is a bit of a rushed ending, although I guess that is why it’s only part one.

Masterclass of Narration

This story is written in one of my favorite genres; dystopian sci-fi. I wanted to like this story SO bad, but I kept finding myself going back to relisten to the same chapters several times. I was getting lost in the technical jargon and excessive details that didn’t really add to the story. Example, an entire chapter was used to describe the death of a person.

I would like to see more backstory in the first several chapters, but didn’t get that until well past halfway through the book. The author has a great concept, but includes too many side stories and nonessential characters to keep up with. The narration was very good, which added another star to my review.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my unbiased review.
