The Formation of Belonging, Supernatural Experience, and Diaspora

Global migration is reshaping the world. Countless Buddhists are scattered across continents, forming hybrid identities that no longer fit traditional categories. This is not a marginal trend but a defining missiological reality of our time.
One crucial, but frequently neglected, factor in ministry among Buddhists, and especially among the diaspora, is that often belonging comes before believing. Faith in Jesus rarely begins with arguments. It grows through relationships, shared life, and encounters with the living God that gradually reshape identity from the inside out.
Created For Belonging brings together selected papers from the 2023 and 2024 SEANET forums, representing voices from a globally diverse group of scholars. Four chapters highlight the missiological opportunities created by Buddhist diaspora and offer practical insight for engaging migrant communities. Five further chapters reflect on how supernatural encounters and relational experiences shape the formation of belonging. The chapters reflect a wide range of ministry contexts, including Thailand, Tibet, and Laos, and address themes such as insider movements, the role of the spirit world, and the importance of social structures in Christian witness among Buddhists.
