Meet Jim Smith, Jonathan Winters' peripatetic buddy. Regardless of season or time of day, Jonathan can never reach Mr. Smith by phone...but that's a stroke of luck for fans of comedy's most beloved genius. This recording is made up of actual phone messages left by Jonathan Winters on his friend's answering machine. The result is a tribute to comedy's brightest mind at his improvisational best.©1995 The Publishing Mills, Inc. (P)1999 Uproar Entertainment, Inc. Artes Escénicas Invierno

Reseñas editoriales

Master of impersonation and improvisation Jonathan Winters is candidly clever on this Grammy Award-winning compilation of crank phone calls. Winters was in his fifth decade of comedy by the time Crank(y) Calls was set to tape, but the answering machine proves a refreshingly personal and impulsive medium for this stand-up pioneer. Whether he’s impersonating Ross Perot - depicted here on his quest to "call every American" - or "Dr. Death", a rather too casual assisted-suicide specialist in search of patients, Winters’ uncanny ability to spin up increasingly ludicrous characters and situations is sure to split a few sides. A seminal influence on the likes of Johnny Carson, Robin Williams, and Jack Paar, Winters serves up another comedy landmark here.
