The second book in the Team Espen series. There are suspicions of malpractice and corruption with aid funds the Ministry wants investigated. It is election year and the Ministers have received information that the opposition has leaked disturbing information to the media, in which the Minister is accused of lacking control over the expenditure of the vast amount of development aid. As cases are uncovered, the suspicions are reinforced. This must be kept hidden from the organization until reliable evidence is obtained.
Espen Bergane receives constantly new orders to go deeper into the investigations and uncover further evidence of fraud. Espen feel he is being abused. He, a number cruncher with an MBA, is far from an investigator. His strength is to follow the money trail. Mafia-like criminals are triggered, wants the investigations stopped by all means. Team Espen are exposed to threats and worse. No one wants the lid of the honey jar to be closed.
It is with apprehension he embarks on new and demanding investigations to satisfy the Ministry’s’ demands for evidence. He is pushed for securing evidence to avoid cleaning up in their own nest. It takes a toll on his psyche, and takes longer to recover after returning from complicated assignments in developing countries.
Opposition opposes the waist of funds and will rather use the one per cent of GDP for welfare projects for its own constituency.
It is far from a walk in the park to handle powerful mafia organizations linked with corrupt employees.
