Coral reefs undergo bleaching and other apocalyptic effects which are caused both naturally and from anthropogenic means. This book reviews on stresses on corals such as coral mining, over fishing, using harmful methods for fishing, pollutants and waste deposits, destruction of reefs by boat grounding, natural factors such as elevated temperatures, radiation, acidification of oceans, diseases which cause bleaching and efforts taken to save the corals, in brief. Corals can be reproduced from vegetative fragments, several propagation and handling methods are being practiced in natural and artificial reef cultivation or protection programmes. Healing the wounded corals can be done in several ways such as fixing broken segments using wires, epoxy putty and cement, moving massive corals from affected areas and to promote the establishment of novel colonies by planting coral fragments on reef ball substrates. In-vitro micro propagation technique facilitates production of many individuals from same parental polyp. There are possibilities of repopulating bleached reefs and reduce the expulsion of zooxanthellae by applying shades and application of acidic supplements. Monitoring and reef conservation activities are being conducted globally with the collaboration of local governments.
