Resumen del Editor

In June 2010, Paul Laubach made the unfortunate decision to play all of GOLF Magazine's top 100 golf courses available to the public. Spread over 45 months, he managed to complete his goal despite numerous weather, course maintenance, and other logistical issues...not to mention his own "senior moment". The journey covered 87,814 air miles and another 17,051 by automobile. During the trek, he suffered two frozen shoulders, a bad lower back, golfer's elbow (left), tennis elbow (right), three major sunburns, hundreds of mosquito bites, poison oak, plus numerous cuts and bruises chasing errant shots into the woods, desert, and other prickly flora. None of this was as painful as the cost associated with losing 117 Pro V1s. A confirmed golf addict and cheapskate, he is now chronicling his adventures for his heirs (who will probably get nothing else, as he wasted the estate on this boondoggle).

Fun

Wasn't the greatest I have listened to, but nice none the less. Somehow it seemed to have a calming effect on my game!

Interesting to other golfaholics

Overall very good. Weaknesses were factoring in local, temporal elements into his rating; we already know that a course is in the middle of nowhere, what we want too know is how good the course is once we get there. Also, would have been better if the author had been able to keep his irrational fear of government to himself. Not relevant to golf, and undermined confidence in his judgment. Overall, though, this is a nicely narrated fantasy of all American golf nuts. Now I don't have to waste my own time and money doing it!

Fun listen, but has some annoying places

If you could sum up Confessions of a Golfaholic in three words, what would they be?

😀

Any additional comments?

If you take a golf trip or two every year, this book will be a fun take on many of he top 100 courses. There was one inconsistency that I thought was almost hilarious. He refers to the Robert Trent Jones golf trail in Alabama. He calls it the Bobby Jones golf trail. Huh? I guess if you think about it, Robert Trent Jones and Robert Tyre Jones are pretty similar. But, this is the type of thing that gets caught in a first class production. I did enjoy this book, but it is not well written and can be very annoying. I almost turned it off at the end of the first chapter. The guy is a fairly typical rich white guy who complains about 1st world problems. But, when he gets into the courses, I found myself giving him some slack.

Waste of my money

Dry, very boring. I wanted to hear in depth descriptions of some individual holes on each course. I don't care what time he played or really even what he shot. Doesn't matter to me who he played with. Don't really care about the local eaters or other things. Thought I was going to hear about the courses and got very little information on each course. Complete waste of my money.
