Reseñas editoriales

This iMinds discussion of the Cold War takes on heady issues rooted in ideology, economics, human rights, and armed conflict, and nevertheless manages to render them in clear, straightforward terms that young listeners will be able to understand. Australian actress Leah Vandenburg describes the competing forms of government that existed in the United States and Soviet Union, and traces the conflict throughout the late 20th century as she discusses the quartering of Berlin, the Cuban Missile Crisis and threat of nuclear war, and the armed confrontations that occurred in Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan. Vandenburg's fluid performance and careful pacing add clarity to the proceedings, ensuring that young audiences won't be vexed by the tortuously nuanced and political nature of the Cold War.

Resumen del Editor

For nearly half of the twentieth century, the two most powerful countries in the world were also two great enemies.

The Cold War was a time of great tension between the USA and the Soviet Union, led by Russia. It lasted from the end of World War Two in 1945, until about 1991. Russia was a communist country, and the USA was the largest capitalist country in the world. Their different ideas of government caused them to be extreme enemies.

Wars are always brutal!

War, whether Cold War or not, is brutal and horrendous! Wish Eartheans were all more compassionate, kinder and loving towards each other. Hope there will come a day with no more cold wars.🕊

Simplified and condensed

It is surprising to discover that the conflict between two large and powerful countries spawned those little conflicts in other parts of the globe. I like how this simplified the terms for children's added information. It's great for adults like me, too.
