Gripping story that captivated right from the beginning!

This isn’t my normal genre. A friend recommended this to me and I am so glad that he did! I was hooked by the second chapter. The characters are so relatable and familiar feeling that they create images in my mind while listening. Once I completely finish this title I will definitely be looking for more titles from this author.

authentic and chilling

This is a well told tale. The "good guys" are relatable and likeable. The "bad" guys are reprehensible.

Good first installment

This book does a good job at keeping you engaged into the story from the start. There are some slower parts of this story, but I believe that’s due to the fact that this book is setting up for the future for later installments. Makes me excited to get into the next book and see where the story goes. The narrator also does a fantastic job of changing the voices for each character and getting emotions and scenes correct. Overall great job by everyone involved!

Engaging!

I enjoyed the small town dynamics and the different characters throughout. I found myself wondering what was gonna happen next. I’m looking forward to seeing more from all of these personalities in the next book.

Mystery solved!

Will keep you guessing where the story will turn next. Real and relatable characters work through a the two year old mystery disappearance of Georgia Murphy with twists at every turn that will keep you guessing "why?"

Took me 2 days to listen to a 13hr book!

Cold, Dark, and Silent is the first book I have listened to of David Reed and I am certain it will not be my last. This book captured my attention with the first chapter and held on for 2 days. I literally could not put it down. My poor kids got plenty of dirty looks due to the 'interruptions', but I got a lot done while listening!
When Ashe, a retired detective, was asked to help solve a cold-case, he found himself immersed in some dangerous situations. The murder of Georgia Reed 2 years earlier turned out to be more than what it seemed and more people were involved than originally expected. The relationships of the characters were entwined like only a small town community can be and that isn't always easy to navigate. David Reed did it honestly and exceptionally well.
The characters were well thought out and either likable or not. And, to be honest, although I think Stevie was the most misunderstood one, Ashe and Pat were my favorites. I am most definitely looking forward to the next book!
Paul J. McSorely is one of my most favorite narrators. The timber of his voice, his timing with the character's reponses as well as their voices are movie quality. I especially enjoyed how I KNEW when Ashe was thinking inside thougthts and not talking outloud during a conversation. Paul is top-knotch in every book he narrates.
I highly recommend this book!

Good story line.

I really enjoyed this. I found myself wanting to finish it because I was drawn into the story. The cliff Hager at the end makes me want to listen to the next one as soon as it comes out.
