Conclusion to the Cobra Rebellion Trilogy

Cobras: technologically enhanced warriors bred to fight an alien menace no ordinary human can withstand.

Once the Cobras fought the implacable alien invaders, the Trofts, to an uneasy stalemate. But in recent years they have faced an enemy more insidious, the oppressive regime known as the Dominion of Man. Now, the Cobra Worlds find themselves under the boot heels of the Dominion, forced into what amounts to slavery, living under martial law. But two clans of Cobras - the Moreaus and the Brooms - will not stand idly by and let the Dominion run roughshod over their home worlds.

Now a threat from without looms. The alien Troft are again planning an attack. Before, they came to conquer. This time they've come to annihilate. If the Cobras are to survive, they may have to do the unthinkable: align themselves with the hated Dominion.

Cobras are not known for taking the easy path - and this may be the hardest path of all. But If the Cobras can manage to avoid complete destruction or abject slavery, a new day may finally dawn on the Cobra worlds. The day of Freedom.

I enjoyed reading the first Cobra trilogy growing up. And I enjoyed sequal Cobra War trilogy as an adult. But there was a problem with it. The Cobra War didnt end the story. It just found a stopping/transition point and stopped. At the time I read it I didnt mind because Zahn had already started the next trilogy.

In Cobra rebellion there is no ultimate justice. In fact the very idea of justice and restraint, while portrayed as morally correct, is also portrayed as a crutch holding people back.

Some villains face comeuppance for their actions, but the story robs the reader by telling instead of showing.

Then other villains don't face any comeuppance at all.

If there was another book in the works I could await a propper ending with propper closure but it has been seven years and there is no news.

In the end the story squeesed me dry and offered me no closure. For that I am left more frustrated and annoyed than satisfied with this book.

I liked the book and it fits with the series. I did think that a turn at end was out of left field. Over all good listen.

Overall very good.

I’ve read nearly every Timothy‘s Zahn book there is, including the young adult books, and as a culmination of a very long extended series this is a total disappointment. There’s been too much time spent away from the series, there’s also so many disconnects, and inconsistencies. Especially in the ending that I’m left wondering what’s going on. Writing with David Weber has not been a good thing for Timothy Zahn’s style.
