Resumen del Editor

Everyone has heard of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. But what about close encounters of the fatal kind? The field of UFOs is rife with unsettling examples of suspicious deaths. Accounts of accidents that might not have been accidents after all, abound. Researchers and witnesses have vanished, never to be seen again. Conveniently timed heart attacks are reported.

Out-of-the-blue suicides that, upon investigation, bear the distinct hallmarks of murder, are all too common. And grisly deaths at the hands of both extraterrestrials and government agents have occurred. Highlights of Close Encounters of the Fatal Kind include:

  • The strange saga of the incredible melting man.
  • The UFO-related death of the first US Secretary of Defense, James Forrestal.
  • The mysterious disappearances of military pilots and their connection to UFOs.

Getting too close to the cosmic truth about alien abductions, Roswell, and what the government really knows about UFOs can - clearly - be a deadly business. The government's latest admission of the existence of Area 51 is barely the tip of a very big iceberg.

Gave me the heebie-jeebies

I found several of these stories to be so far-fetched that it kind of annoyed me at several points making me believe I was wasting my time on this book. However, as I neared the end, this gifted author and researcher brought it all together in such a way that in addition to these new unfamiliar stories, familiar stories that I had never made connections with in the past suddenly started to click as potentially being authentic, and maybe connected, and, the thought of that struck home just as I was on the portion on the Moth Man. The very eerie feelings I experienced when I had first learned of that entity and story bubbled back up and suddenly I felt fear that, what if all this is real, like really real. Better to not say Candyman in the mirror three times, just in case. Be careful when you look into the abyss; the abyss stares back at you.

Redfern's Research Scares the Dung Out of You

This book is actually scary. Everybody knows that the people down the street are engaged in a conspiracy, why wouldn't powerful people be as well? Like all of Redfern's best books this is pedal to the metal thrills, with stuff you've never heard of or dreamed of before, like the guy being rushed to the hospital while he was decomposing. Redfern is one of the best people out there who bring the weird world right to our door.

The Master of Juxtaposition

Would you listen to Close Encounters of the Fatal Kind again? Why?

Yes! There's a wealth of detail here, making it good reading for a class I teach on the paranormal. I'll definitely be using a few quotations from it for my lectures.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Nick is great at taking well-known material, combining it with some new or less well-known stuff, and putting the information into fascinating context and relationship. I think he does this better than any other Ufologist. He amazing at developing his arguments thoroughly, a quality I'd like to see in my students' term papers.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

It was an adequate performance with a guy who has an unexceptional and relatively unobtrusive tone and style. He's a bit repetitive and formulaic in his phrasing and timing of the sentences. Just ok.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Actually yes, although it's too long to do so, at least for me.

Any additional comments?

Buy it! I you're into UFO research, it'll make you a bit paranoid!

You won’t be able to sleep through this one

For any one interested in the topic of UFO’s and NHIBs, this condensed listing of what befell many people who spoke openly about will make why we know so little crystal clear. It’s not a cheerful read. It’s also not written as horror story. It might make you think.

Too much speculation.

Ok but could just be fiction. Not impressive. I prefer more seemingly factual information. Just a re-hash of old stories.

Hazards Of Research

This is another great book from author Nick Redfern. It was extensively researched and contained a number of issues that conspiracy theorists would love. Many little known facts are included. I read this book using immersion reading, while listening to the audiobook. Narrator Shaun Grindell handles the narration beautifully.
