A Tale of Ubers & unters

In the 2020s governments force their citizens to move to Smart Cities so as to avoid contracting a deadly virus. Not long after that, however, there is no more mention of the virus. In its stead comes a torrent of news coverage on Climate Change and how all citizens in these Smart Cities must endure rolling lockdowns if the government is to manage to change the climate back to normal.Most of the people in Smart City 15b are unaware that there is a strict pecking order at play. On the one hand are the Ubers, carnivores who eat the flesh of the others and who seem to hold all the levers of power and influence. On the other hand are the unters, who, constantly living in fear of potential catastrophe, do as they are told, even if it means sacrificing those liberties that up until recently had made them human.When the population of Ubers increases in Smart City 15b and the population of unters drops precipitously, order begins to break down. And when a mysterious outsider is captured and brought to Smart City 15b, life will never be the same again.
