Father Knows Best was a situation comedy built around the Anderson family and life on Maple Street in the fictitious Midwestern town of Springfield. Robert Young starred as Jim Anderson, head of the household, husband of Margaret, and an insurance man by occupation. The couple had three children. The weekly radio script, although played for laughs, offered words of wisdom and “recipes for domestic happiness” that American families could identify with. Jim’s understanding wife Margaret was the picture of domesticity as mother to Betty (aged 18), Bud (16), and Kathy (10).

The Lux Radio Theatre was a one-of-a-kind OTR show. Imagine the greatest Hollywood stars doing one-hour versions of their biggest motion pictures, complete with full orchestra, live onstage with a studio audience. The one and only Cecil B. DeMille was your host ('36-'45) for a lavish production of what was to become a veritable film checklist of many of Hollywood's best films from the mid-'30s right through the mid-'50s. The first Lux film adaptation was The Legionnaire and the Lady with Marlene Dietrich and Clark Gable, based on the film Morocco.

Laughed uncontrollably
I loved these silly innocent shows! They are full of hilarious, funny characters who are too funny for words! Just proof funny doesn't have to be dirty!
