At the onset of the first World War, E.G. Lewis wielded his outsized charm and entrepreneurial spirit to attract legions of women to move across the country to build a new American dream in Atascadero, California.

His new city, envisioned to rival Los Angeles and San Francisco, targeted the millions of subscribers to his national women's magazines who longed for a utopia designed for progressive women and their families. However, Atascadero's unrivaled success soon attracts conspirators from his past, threatening to destroy all he's built.

With vultures circling, E.G. Lewis fights not only to keep Atascadero alive but also to preserve the one relationship he most cherishes -- his marriage. His only salvation comes from the smart, capable women in his circle, reminding the world never to underestimate a city of women.

This sequel was even better than I imagined it would be! After loving Company of Women, I was excited to hear more of Eddie and Mabel’s story. I was completely captivated listening to the audio and fell even more in love with some of the characters (old and new). The twists and turns kept me listening and excited to hear the ending. Would recommend to anyone who read Company of Women. And if you haven’t read that one, get on it!

Awesome Sequel to Company of Women

After passing through Atascadero, I was curious to find out more about Edward Gardner Lewis. This book - and its prequel, Company of Women - tells the story of the extraordinary entrepreneur who founded Atascadero. Well worth the read to appreciate a slice of early 20th century pioneering out in California.
The reader was only OK. The recording appears to have been made in haste. At one point the reader clearly has caught a cold so his voice sounds congested. A female French-speaking character's lines are inserted in the recording by some kind of male-voiced bot! The narrator also maddeningly calls the town A-tascadero with a weird emphasis on the first syllable.
Overall, however, it held my interest and I'm grateful to Villhard for telling this story.

Another fantastic yarn about EG Lewis!
